Report Highlights: This is an annual update of the exporter guide. Senegal’s efforts to emerge as an alternative trade hub in West Africa is hampered by high energy prices, deficient infrastructure, and poor investment climate. Nonetheless, residents in Dakar, including a large expatriate population, have a relatively high disposable income which translates into a vibrant retail market for food products and other consumer goods. Senegal's geographic position vis-a-vis the U.S. east and gulf coasts, its modern communication infrastructure, and its favorable trade policy offer trade opportunities for U.S. exporters, especially for bulk, intermediate, and consumer-ready products.
